The Spread of Misinformation

As social media continues to advance, it has had a large influence on people and the politics of our society. Since so many people have access to social media, and it is such a large platform of communication, it is difficult to filter everything that is said. Of course there are certain guidelines, but social media still continues to have negative affects on society. Being that there are many people who access social media, people often talk of controversial topics. One of the main things that people on social media talk about is politics.

On social media, its easy to pretend to be someone else. You have a profile picture, biographys, and many other ways to identify a person but you can always lie and put in anything you want. You can be a totally different person. Similar situations happen with Russians. Russian citizens have pretended to be American citizens and write opinions about the elections in America. These russian citizens spread misinformation about the elections in an attempt to sway the results of an election.

Obviously, in order to stay unknown they need to spread the right information. If they said something too controversial, their plan could potentially be compromised. The topics talked about must be tested, which ideas were effective and then continue to spread only that information. This way their plan would work.

While moscow tried to interfere with the 2016 election, after Donald Trump came into office, Trump attempted to mend the US's relationship with Russia. Despite his attempts, he was not able to do this. The US and Russia, while being two of the most powerful countries in the world, have always had some companionship with competition, always fighting to do things first and better.
